I was very tempted to go to the meetup yesterday since my Dodgeball group took the week off..but I don't think it'd have been a great idea.
You have these two complete tools in the meetup group in Hugh and Venger. Hugh seems like he has an arrogance about him in that he's better than everyone, and goes out of his way to defend people just so people will look at how awesome he is. Then you have Venger who seems to be even more offensive than I was before I was kicked out, but he does it with personal attacks whereas I just fling jokes that piss off everyone when it's not even the plan specifically to make people angry.
I also am tempted to rejoin the meetup group with my current account because of what's being talked about in the WoW vs D&D thread. I am someone who played D&D for 4 years and ended it in December finally. I would play 8-16 hours every single day, but at the same time I wasn't addicted to it. I just didn't have anything else going on in my life to care about. I'm personally against the online dating thing because it wouldn't work for me. Doesn't mean it wouldn't work for other people though. And as to making friends on the internet and not having them be considered "real" friends? That's a bunch of horsecock honestly. It has more to do with how much you put into it. I am one who likes to disconnect myself emotionally from people on the internet, but sometimes it's easy to form some friendships. I stopped playing WoW, but I've still jumped on Ventrilo with my old guild to see how people are doing outside of game.
Hugh and Venger need to set up a contest where they jump off a bridge and the winner is the one who hits the ground the fastest.

Well, Hugh has been nice to me but he does have a dominant personality. Venger continues to be absolutely rude and attacks me at every turn. He even deleted a thread right after becoming the organizer that he had completely insulted me in. I guess he didn't want everyone to see the evidence of how rude he really is.

Inna and I didn't make it to the meetup, we have one of those weird 24 hour flu type things, both at the same time. Not convinced it wasn't some kind of food poisoning since we both had it. Today we played at Richards new game at Great Escape. Was a lot of fun :)
With Hugh, he seems nice enough. I always knew what to expect from reading the Fellsea campaign thread at the meet up group. I read that a while back when considering joining the group, only the numbers were too high. Some people are naturally dominant and have a aggressive streak when riled, if you are aware of that you can try and be a bit more tact full and avoid triggering any aggressive behaviour.
I was a bit taken aback when Venger closed the Great escape thread, but since he revoked the ban almost immediately after there were some reasonable complaints I didn't hold it against him. So far I haven't met any rotten fruit in the D&D group, people are people, sometimes you just have to sit back and hold your own tongue and try and keep your own aggressive tendencies in check, find some middle ground that everyone can be comfortable in and pick your real battles carefully ;)

Lol, arghh. My avatar changed. That's funny. My wife posted on a political activist web page with our joint email the other day and my portrait popped up instead of her chosen avatar thanks to the Gravatar avatar service that tracks your email and sticks up a pic automatically. I stuck a crop of a section of the family coat of arm up temporarily and now it popped up here!!.

I have been tempted to wander down to that game too. I live mere blocks from there. I am currently looking for work, so, I cannot really justify the expense of eating at a restaurant. I haven't met either HUGH or Venger, but, I think that it is unfortunate that you came away from the experience with such negative feelings about two of the more prominent people there. I may have to rethink my interest in that meetup. I am glad that I found the website though, because I met a cool gamer, and, I still get to read the threads that interest me. Long live the game, not the egos attatched to it!

Hugh is one of the regular players of the Fellsea Campaign, which is the game that I'm the DM of. ALthough, another player is temporarily DMing so I can take a break and get a chance to be a player for awhile.
Hugh is actually a really nice guy, albeit he can be argumentative. He has bought people food, given rides for people who need them, etc.
I just ask that you don't judge him too harshly because he blew up at that one joke.
I don't really know Venger, but he is beginning to irritate me as well. But since he usurped the meetup without any consensus, what are we going to do?

Jack – I personally removed myself from the boards and obviously posted my thoughts on the matter. Although Edward did email me and asked me to come back to the boards, apologizing for Vengers posts, I do not wish to go back to the boards until Venger is either gone, or has apologized to everyone and has changed his ways. I really really did try to give him a chance but at every turn he seems to insult people without care. Even through private emails to Venger, he has never apologized to me still….

I'm considering jumping out of the boards as well. But I really don't want to miss out on the meetups.
I hate politics.

Yeah they are becoming a site for venting. Not gaming info. Too bad.

Seriously though, I'd play, but, sometimes I just don't care one way or the other. I'll try to chime in if I have a solid opinion on a question.

Personally I'm avoiding the boards simply because they seem to be going through excessive pruning. I find it more than a little annoying when I jump in to see what has been posted on a thread (Like the one on SacConquest) only to discover it's been removed. Here I was hoping for other opinions (particularly from the RPGA folk) on the opinion of the Con this time.
My experiences were less than ideal, but I avoid the RPGA and wanted to know how some of the dedicated gamers in that group felt the con went.

Good neighbor, put away your silver for I only fight for 3 things; Purity, Nobility and Self-Sacrifice.*
*- The purity of your gold, the Nobility that have gold and the Self-Sacrifice of others so that I get their gold.

Hmm, I was wondering what that was like and was looking forward to getting some feedback on the event. Mostly for future reference. I wanted to go this year but then one of my Pugs got sick and what with taxes so close, we couldn't even afford the relatively low price for the convention.
I didn't notice any pruning, only that the meetup message board has fewer posts than this one. Seem's almost like they want to restrict their board to discussion about their meetup group and nothing else. A real shame that.
I was hoping that this site would make it onto search engines sooner and attract a few more people. Next time I'm at great escape I must remember to drop some flyers off. Might be having a game there next week.
